In Washington D.C. lower income communities, there are limited resources and options for nutritious food. It’s apparent that there are still many food deserts in D.C.  Since many resources are not available, many D.C. youth in poverty, resort to gathering meals from fast food chains and liquor stores, where healthy options for food are not readily available.

3.2 % of D.C. residents deal with some type of issue of food.

 

4.9% of D.C. Residents struggle with hunger.

 

11% of DC is food deserts

3/4th of food deserts are in Ward 7 and 8

 

There are only 2 grocery stores in Ward 7 (Safeway being one of them)

 

Half of D.C.'s food deserts are in Ward 8
